What do you do at St Paul’s?
I am the Director of Sports Ministries. My largest ministry is the Upward Sports Basketball and Cheerleading program, where I oversee the day to day operation of the basketball league, which runs all year long. In addition I seek and recruit programs involved in promoting exercise and health and any program that gets people moving. Currently Sports Ministries is involved in Church outreach through T’ai Chi classes, Zumba, and Body Toning. Other sports/health related programs are Cycling, Yoga and Stretching and Strengthening classes. I am active in both Vacation Bible School (VBS) and VBS Sports.
How big is your family?
Growing up I was one of seven children, five boys and two girls. I have 3 children and a step-son and I am a grandfather five times over. None of my siblings or children/grandchildren lives in Arizona. I am married to Julie Brown and we share our home with three dogs and four cats, all rescued/rejected animals.
What do you do for fun/hobbies?
I love photography though not an expert. I enjoy the challenge of crossword puzzles as well as cryptograms. I love working on home projects and working with my hands. Whenever I can I paint ceramics just for the pleasure of creating. And I love animals so anytime I can be involved with animals I enjoy it.
What is your favorite kind of music?
I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got there as soon as I could, so I am a lover of country music, especially the older music, with twang, fiddles and steel guitars. I love Gospel music as much as I love country, so if I can get country artists doing Gospel I’m in Seventh Heaven.
What are your favorite books/authors?
Of course, my all time favorite book is the Bible. One of my all-time favorite authors is Harold Robbins. Currently I enjoy W.E.B. Griffin and his many different series, as well as all of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child’s books, especially ones about FBI Agent Aloysius Pendergast.
What do you get at Starbucks?
I have never had a cup of coffee in my life so I don’t go to Starbucks. When my wife gets me something from there it is a strawberry Frapaccino or something like that. I am Starbuck challenged.
