Adult Spiritual Growth
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church believes that its strength is found in the people who consider St. Paul’s their church home.
We acknowledge that God is above all things, and that God calls us to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
We long to connect with God and one another through meaningful, discipleship experiences that will challenge us to:
- love God deeply and grow in our relationship with God,
- develop a disciplined prayer life,
- learn from and apply scripture in daily living,
- build strong Christian relationships,
- know and use our spiritual gifts, and
- share our faith with others
We accept that God gives us personal responsibility for our spiritual growth, and it is through our intentional pursuit of these discipleship experiences that we are able to transform our lives and be disciples who make a difference in observable ways.
St. Paul’s is committed to supporting and encouraging the discipleship process by planning and offering experiences that seek to meet the needs of all its people, empowering them to reach out in ministry to others for the good of the world.
~ SIX DISCIPLINES OF DISCIPLESHIP ~
Grow in Our Relationship with God: Experiences that help disciples learn about the nature of the Christian’s relationship with Christ, the character of Christ, the disciple’s identity in Christ, what it means to abide in Christ, and how to have personal quiet time.
Learn From and Apply Scripture in Daily Living: Experiences that help disciples learn to study God’s word, understand how the Bible came to be, explore the biblical truth for life issues, and apply biblical truth to daily life.
Develop a Disciplined Prayer Life: Experiences that help disciples learn about biblical prayer, develop an effective prayer life, and build a ministry of prayer.
Build Strong Christian Relationships: Experiences that help disciples understand the nature of the church as the body of Christ, build effective relationships, and understand themselves and others.
Know and Use Our Spiritual Gifts: Experiences that help disciples identify personal spiritual gifts, interests, and natural abilities; grow in leadership ability; build effective skills for ministry; facilitate small groups for ministry care; learn to disciple others.
Share Our Faith With Others: Experiences that help disciples share personal testimony, witness in a variety of situations, develop a mission worldview, and lead others to share the good news.
