We at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church want to say that generosity
matters. It really does. Tithing is the spiritual discipline of giving 10%
of our income to others. When practiced this spiritual discipline guarantees
a generous heart and a life free from greed. It teaches us that the practice
of gratitude is a genuine gift to the giver. We do not ask people to practice tithing because the church needs it. We practice tithing because we need it. It allows us to grow in freedom and grace in a way we cannot without it. Ann and I have practiced this discipline from the very beginning of our marriage. We cannot ever remember discussing the church budget. Our conversations concerning giving are always centered on how God invites us to practice generosity. While it is true that giving in this manner has caused us to adjust our life style from time to time we have never regretted living this way. All we can remember are the deep blessings that come from giving generously. St. Paul’s invites all of our friends to join us in the practice of giving generously, which leads to tithing. We are confident that you will be blessed in ways you have not yet imagined.
