In sports ministries here at St. Paul’s UMC we strive for equal playing time for all participants. Today’s sports culture has created a “win at all cost” mentality. In our sports programs there are no losers...only winners. The emphasis is on fun and sportsmanship. In the Upward Sports programs, designed for children kindergarten through 6th grade, Upward defines winning as “learning and/or teaching lessons in the game of life.” We want to learn and/or teach skills that can be applied to everyday situations in life and how God will be with us as we make choices, whether they are right or wrong. We do this by taking time out at every sporting event to participate in a devotional study about what God’s plans for us might be. Sports ministries aren't only limited to children. Adult volleyball leagues, stretching and strengthening classes, cycling groups and marathon training groups, there's no limit to the way you can keep your body healthy and strong while creating lasting friendships with other Christians. As the Director of Sports Ministries, I envision developing stronger family ties, friendships and relationships with Christ through sporting events and physical activities. Whether you’re a stiff competitor, a casual enthusiast, or a child developing basic skills and sportsmanship, my purpose is to ensure sports activities are fun for all and conducted in a Christian atmosphere. Christ is very much alive in the sports ministries on the campus of St. Paul’s UMC. I invite you to join us in sports activities that might draw you and your family into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. God’s Grace. Rick Hornback
